CalOptima Health Appoints Executive Director of Medicare Programs

New leader brings decades of health care leadership experience

ORANGE, Calif. (April 27, 2023) — CalOptima Health added a new leader with decades of health care industry experience to the agency’s executive leadership team. 

Javier Sanchez, Executive Director, Medicare Programs, is responsible for meeting membership, quality and financial goals, as well as implementing projects to improve health outcomes for CalOptima Health’s two Medicare programs, OneCare (HMO D-SNP) and the Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE). Mr. Sanchez served in executive roles for CHOC Health Alliance, providing strategic and operational direction for the physician/hospital organization, and for Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, leading Medi-Cal contracting efforts across California. Most recently, he was vice president of Medicare Advantage and Health Plan CEO at Innovative Integrated Health Community Plans, where he led the development of a new Medicare Advantage plan. He also previously served in executive positions at CalOptima Health, where he spearheaded the development of the CalOptima Health Community Network, a grouping of primary care providers, specialists, hospitals and other providers directly contracted through CalOptima Health. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of Phoenix.
