CalOptima Grants $1M to Increase Access at Be Well OC

Funds to increase hours of operation for unique behavioral health treatment center in Orange

ORANGE, Calif. (February 3, 2022)

The CalOptima Board of Directors has authorized a grant agreement of up to $1 million to support the Be Well Orange Campus, a mental health and substance use treatment facility in Orange. The grant will enhance intake and admissions coordination services for CalOptima Medi-Cal members who need behavioral health services.

First-year grant funding will support a specialized team to facilitate admissions to the Be Well Orange Campus. This team will operate 7 days a week, initially for 10 hours of coverage per day. Second-year funding will provide for additional staff and increased coverage to 14 hours a day, seven days a week.

“CalOptima’s grant to the Be Well Orange Campus opens the door to even greater access for our members who experience a mental health or substance abuse crisis,” said Clayton Corwin, Vice Chair of the CalOptima Board of Directors. “We are pleased to provide additional support and increase access to these important services for our members and the entire Orange County community.”

The two-year grant will ensure CalOptima members have timely access to services, assessment and placement into care through an improved intake and coordination process at the Be Well Orange Campus. The cost of coordination includes staffing, training and development, administrative services, and a phone system upgrade.

Be Well has served an estimated 2,400 CalOptima members since opening January 25, 2021.
“CalOptima is a valued partner, and we are honored to receive this generous investment,” said Marshall Moncrief, Chief Executive Officer, Be Well OC. “As a movement and countywide coalition, Be Well OC is working to create a best-in-class behavioral health system of care and support for all residents. This grant enables us to serve even more Orange County clients and families who have urgent mental health needs, putting us one step closer to achieving that goal.”
