Issue

  • The end of the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency now requires all Medi-Cal members to renew their health insurance over a 14-month period from April 1, 2023, through May 31, 2024.
  • For many Medi-Cal members, this will be the first time in three years that they have to renew their health insurance.

Concern

  • CalOptima Health is concerned that members who are still eligible for Medi-Cal may lose their coverage because they do not understand the process or do not receive the renewal notices because of incorrect contact information.
  • California officials estimate that up to 20% of eligible members will lose their Medi-Cal, which is approximately 200,000 people in Orange County.

Solution

  • CalOptima Health and the County of Orange Social Services Agency (SSA) are conducting an outreach campaign to CalOptima Health members to share what they need to do to keep their health coverage during the renewal process.
  • To maximize this outreach effort, we are engaging a diverse group of community-based and governmental entities to build a coalition of supporters across Orange County.

How to Act

Sign the Pledge of Support

I support Orange County’s Medi-Cal Renewal Campaign

  1. I believe Medi-Cal renewal poses a serious risk to continued health care coverage and could result in up to 200,000 Medi-Cal members losing their health insurance.

  2. I support CalOptima Health and the County of Orange Social Services Agency campaign to reach members with information about what they need to do to keep their health coverage.

  3. I encourage all Orange County stakeholders, including federal, state and county elected officials; cities; school districts; health networks and hospitals; and community-based organizations to act today by joining the Medi-Cal Renewal Campaign to prevent vulnerable Orange County residents from unnecessarily losing their health insurance.
