Medi-Cal and CalOptima Direct

Medi-Cal Rx begins January 1, 2022

As of January 1, 2022, the Medi-Cal outpatient pharmacy benefit will transition from CalOptima to Medi-Cal Fee-For-Service under a program called Medi-Cal Rx. DHCS is working with a new contractor (Magellan Rx) to provide Medi-Cal Rx services.

Starting on January 1, 2022, providers can use a secure Medi-Cal Rx portal to access the following systems:

  • Prior Authorizations
  • Secure Chat and Messaging
  • Beneficiary Eligibility Lookup
  • Education and Outreach Calendar
