CalOptima Health offers a variety of medical plans to ensure employees and their families have access to quality health care. Options include multiple HMO plans and a High-Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) PPO. Eligible employees enrolled in the HDHP can also open a Health Savings Account (HSA) with employer contributions to help manage out-of-pocket costs.
Employees can choose between a Dental HMO and a Dental PPO. Coverage includes preventive care, cleanings, exams, x-rays, specialized treatments, and orthodontic services.
Vision coverage is provided through VSP, with a choice of a base plan or a buy-up plan. These plans cover annual eye exams, prescription lenses, and stylish frames. Employees also receive discounts on eyewear from retailers like Costco, Sam’s Club, and Walmart—supporting both eye health and personal style.
CalOptima Health offers Paid Time Off (PTO) to eligible employees for rest, recreation, recovery from illness or injury, and other personal activities. Additionally, the organization observes 13 paid holidays each year (including one floating holiday) to support work-life balance.
Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) allow employees to set aside pre-tax dollars to cover eligible out-of-pocket expenses. The Health Care FSA can be used for medical, dental, and vision expenses such as deductibles, copays, coinsurance, and other non-covered costs for you and your tax dependents. The Dependent Care FSA helps pay for daycare, in-home child care, and before- or after-school care for children under age 13 or dependents who are incapable of self-care.
In lieu of Social Security contributions, CalOptima Health and its employees participate in the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS), a defined benefit pension plan. Employees are enrolled in either the 2% at 60 (Classic) or the 2% at 62 (PEPRA/New) formula, based on eligibility. Vesting occurs after five years of service with CalPERS or a reciprocal agency.
To support long-term financial security, CalOptima Health offers a 401(a) Supplemental Retirement Program through Empower. The program is employer-funded, with CalOptima contributing 4% of your base salary. Employees become fully vested after four years of service, with vesting occurring annually.
Employees may also participate in a voluntary 457(b) Deferred Compensation Plan, which allows pre-tax and/or Roth contributions—similar to a 401(k) in the private sector. There is no employer contribution to this plan. Contributions are voluntary and subject to IRS annual limits.
CalOptima Health provides basic term life and AD&D insurance at no cost. The benefit equals one times your annual salary, with a minimum of $50,000 and a maximum of $650,000 for regular full-time employees, and a minimum of $25,000 and a maximum of $325,000 for regular part-time employees.
Disability insurance is provided at no cost to employees. Short-term disability offers income replacement during recovery from an illness or injury, while long-term disability provides extended financial protection for prolonged absences from work.
Employees can enhance their coverage by purchasing Voluntary Life and AD&D Insurance for themselves, their spouse/registered domestic partner, and/or their child(ren). Coverage for dependents is only available if the employee elects coverage for themselves.
