Tobacco Cessation Program
Among other wellness services CalOptima has a tobacco cessation program to help members stop tobacco use. The program is for members including school-aged children, teens and pregnant women who smoke or use other forms of tobacco products. Members have the option to choose between phone, face-to-face counseling or going to a local class. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved medications for people who are trying to stop smoking. CalOptima will pay for the medicine to help members stop tobacco use if a doctor writes the order. Tobacco users who are pregnant or under 18 years of age will need to consult with their doctor about quitting and using medications.
