Multipurpose Senior Services Program (MSSP)

Care Management to Help Elderly Adults Remain at Home

Multipurpose Senior Services Program (MSSP) provides social and health care management services created to delay older adults from having to go into nursing homes. MSSP Care Managers help their clients get needed services from community resources while working with their families and support system(s). MSSP reduces costs and enables clients to keep living in their homes and enjoy a higher quality of life.

To get these services, you must:

  • Be 65 years of age or older
  • Live in Orange County
  • Have a possible need for nursing home care
  • Be on Medi-Cal with no Share of Cost

Care Management Services

Registered Nurses (RNs) and Social Workers provide care management services to MSSP clients and their families. Some services include:

  • Making a full review of the client’s and family’s needs
  • Creating a Care Plan with the client to meet his or her needs through family and community resources
  • Purchasing services and/or items that are not available through family and community resources
  • Connecting the client to services that meet the Care Plan goals
  • Reviewing the client’s needs regularly to track the progress of services
  • Helping the client keep services and find new ones

MSSP Care Managers coordinate a wide range of services based on the client’s needs:

  • Community-Based Adult Services (formerly Adult Day Health Care)
  • Medical Equipment (Walkers, Canes, Grab Bars, Wheelchairs, Hospital Beds, Bath Chairs, etc.)
  • Non-medical Equipment (Medical Alert Systems, Ramps, Heaters, Fans, etc.)
  • Supplemental Personal Care, Homemaker Chore Services, Caregiver Relief
  • Transportation
  • Minor Home Repairs
  • Counseling for Mental and/or Medical Issues

MSSP is administered by CalOptima.
It is funded by the Department of Health Care Services and Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services vis a Medi-Cal waiver program.
