Signs of generalized anxiety disorder

Many people worry about their health, money, relationships and work. Some people can go through constant and excessive worry about these things daily, even if there is not a specific reason for them to be worried. About 6.8 million adults in the U.S. are affected by generalized anxiety disorder according to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH).

Symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder on most days include:

  • Intense worry about everyday things
  • Trouble controlling worries
  • Trouble concentrating
  • Trouble relaxing and falling or staying asleep
  • Feeling tired
  • Being easily startled
  • Headaches, muscle aches, stomach aches and unexplained pain
  • Irritability

If these symptoms impact your daily life, you should talk with a doctor or mental health expert. Generalized anxiety disorder is a mental health condition that is treatable. Common treatments for generalized anxiety disorder include medicine and seeing a therapist.
